Congrats to West Bend 7 Up, the 2018 champions. They defeated Brookfield Bulldogs 4-1 to win the series 2-0.
West Bend 7 Up wins their first title since 2010 with a 4-1 win in West Bend Sunday. Much like Saturday, pitching seemed like it was going to own the game early. Both Brookfield and West Bend struggled to get anything going against Brookfield starter Matt Ausloos and West Bend starter Nick Winter.
Brookfield, like Saturday, would jump out and score first, scoring their lone run of the game in the top of the 3rd.
Brookfield would get a single from Bill Gorman to lead off the 3rd, and get sacrificed to second on a great bunt by Mike Mierow. Brandon Buelow would score Gorman on a single to left-center.
West Bend would answer right back and take the lead 2-1 after the 3rd. With one out, Adam Sarauer would reach on a error and Nick Winter would follow up with a sharp single to center. Adam Rohlinger would move them over to second and third, and Matt Schubert would double off the left center field fence scoring Sarauer and Winter.
7 Up would tack two more in the 4th, when Matt Parrent reached on a error, moved to second on a one out single to center by Dan Ranieri. Michael Szeszol would double to the right field fence to score Matt Parrent and bring Dan Ranieri to 3rd. Adam Sarauer would single to right scoring Ranieri but a perfect relay from Dan Barwick, to Scott Booth, to Mike Mierow was executed to perfection to get Szeszol out at home.
Brookfield had a golden opportunity to have a big inning in the 5th after the first 2 batters reached via walk, however Nick Winter settled in to get two pop outs and a pickoff to end the threat.
West Bend would turn the ball over to Matt Parrent for the second straight game, and Parrent did his job, allowing just two hits and striking out two.
Nick Winter got the win on the mound for West Bend, while Matt Parrent picked up the save.
Adam Rohlinger had a multiple hit game for West Bend 7 Up, while every starter had at least one base hit. Scott Booth had a multiple hit game for Brookfield.
West Bend 7 Up shortstop Matt Schubert was named the 2018 Playoff and Finals Most Valuable Player.
